How to use it

  1. Enter the volume size in GiB and the number of volumes.
  2. Set provisioned IOPS and throughput. Each volume includes 3,000 IOPS and 125 MiB/s at no extra cost.
  3. Read the monthly cost split into storage, extra IOPS and extra throughput.

Frequently asked questions

How is gp3 priced?

Per GiB of storage each month, plus a charge for IOPS above 3,000 and for throughput above 125 MiB/s. The baseline performance is included in the storage price.

Why is gp3 usually cheaper than gp2?

gp2 ties performance to size, so you buy storage you do not need to get IOPS. gp3 lets you provision size and performance separately, and its per-GiB price is lower.

What are gp3's limits?

Up to 16,000 IOPS and 1,000 MiB/s per volume, at most 500 IOPS per GiB, and throughput up to 0.25 MiB/s per IOPS.

What does this leave out?

Snapshots, the instance that uses the volume, and data transfer. EBS charges for provisioned capacity whether or not you fill it.
