Rates are for US East (N. Virginia); other regions differ. Inter-region is the rate from us-east-1 to most US and EU regions.

How to use it

  1. Enter monthly gigabytes leaving AWS to the internet, moving between regions and between availability zones.
  2. Enter the gigabytes processed by NAT gateways and how many gateways you run.
  3. Read the breakdown and decide where to cut: VPC endpoints, CloudFront or keeping chatty services in one zone.

Frequently asked questions

Is inbound data free?

Data transfer into AWS from the internet is free. You pay for data leaving AWS and for some internal movements.

How much is free each month?

The first 100 GB of internet egress a month, aggregated across services and regions, is free. After that, tiers start at $0.09 per GB and fall with volume.

Why is cross-AZ traffic charged?

Traffic between availability zones in a region costs $0.01 per GB each way, so $0.02 per GB moved. Chatty services spread across zones can add up quickly.

How do I cut NAT gateway costs?

A NAT gateway charges hourly and $0.045 per GB processed. S3 and DynamoDB gateway endpoints are free and keep that traffic off the NAT.
